In March 2020, myself and many other drivers chose to stay on the job through the pandemic. I found out how many other people in support roles depend on public transportation: housekeeping and food service workers at the hospitals, dispatchers and janitors from fire, police and other first responders and many that I’m not sure what their occupations were. Many of my fellow bus drivers, myself included, did end up getting Covid. As a result, I now have an appreciation for people with respiratory issues. Coming upstairs after moving laundry and not being able to catch your breath for several minutes is frightening.
